CREATIVELY STUCK

May 6, 2020

There are many days when I go into my creative space, all ready to connect to what is nudging at me to come out onto paper or canvas, and suddenly, blank paper in front of me, I get stuck. It can be frustrating especially when I am really feeling that creative itch that needs desperately to be scratched. I know myself well enough to realize that all this “stuck” feeling really needs is a little bit of patience, a way to release, and simply to be recognized.

To give this stuck feeling some patience, I have found it helps to just sit with that feeling and take a few deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling to calm my whole body and mind. It can help to imagine that breath coming directly into and out of your heart. This is the center of our being, the place where we connect best with the Spirit’s love.

On the exhale, I can imagine the stuck feeling releasing it’s hold on me. (It can help to visualize this stuck feeling leaving your body as a color or a shape.) This frees my mind from the thoughts around what is keeping me stuck.

As a way to then physically see or recognize my stuck feeling, I then spend a few minutes doing doodles/scribbles on a piece of paper. This could also be writing random, somewhat inspirational, words that just pop into my mind (a more intuitive action here). This act of moving a pencil around on the paper can free that stuck feeling even more.

Most of the time, this reconnects me to my free spirit and creativity can begin to flow!
